Welcome to the Dinosaur Strength Training Substack!
Train Hard, Train Heavy, Be Strong, Be a Dinosaur!
Thanks for Stopping By — and Welcome Aboard!
Way back in 1939, Bob Hoffman, the owner of the York Barbell Company and the editor and publisher of Strength and Health magazine, wrote these words in the foreword to his classic book, Weight Lifting:
“I am a weight lifter. I like weight lifting and weight lifters. Training with and the lifting of weights, which to me was at first a pleasurable form of exercise, an outlet for the competitive instinct all real men possess, a means of keeping fit in the shortest possible time, has become my life’s work.”
I quote Hoffman’s words because I echo the very same thoughts — and because, like Hoffman, I make it my full-time job to promote weight training and related methods of old-school strength training and physical culture.
I began writing for various strength training publications in the 1990’s, and quickly found an enthusiastic and receptive audience. In 1996, I released my first book, Dinosaur Training: Lost Secrets of Strength and Development. Since that time, I’ve published hundreds (perhaps thousands) of articles, and over 30 books and courses dealing with strength training and related topics.
I’ve created this substack for several reasons, all somewhat related, and all supporting the fundamental mission of helping to spread the word about real-world, no-nonsense, old-school strength training and its many benefits for men and women of all ages:
Let’s Grow the Audience — and the Dino Nation!
I’m always trying to make my training methods available to as many people as possible — and I want as many people as possible to become card-carrying members of the Dinosaur nation. I’ve been spreading the word through articles, books, courses, newsletters, blog posts, websites, podcast interviews, seminars, the Kindle bookstore, my Dinosaur Training website (www.dinosaurtraining.com), my daily emails to those on my email list, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. I have a large and loyal following — but substack offers a uniquely effective and efficient way to help grow the Dinosaur Nation.
By the way, since many of you are already following my daily emails and subscribing to the Dinosaur Files monthly strength training newsletter, let me mention that:
— My substack will include original material that you’ve not seen before. It also will include revised, updated, and expanded versions of selected emails sent to my email list in the current year or in previous years. You can sign up for my daily emails at my Dinosaur Training website (www.dinosaurtraining.com) and sign up for my substack at the substack links on this page.
— My substack will not include content from current or recent issues of the Dinosaur Files strength training newsletter. However, it may include revised and updated material from earlier issues of The Dinosaur Files, including those published from 1997 through 2002. I hope that you subscribe to The Dinosaur Files monthly strength training newsletter (or purchase each monthly issue as it is available), and that you also subscribe to my substack. You can sign up for The Dinosaur Files at the Dinosaur Training website (www.dinosaurtraining,com), and sign up for my substack at the substack links on this page.
Enjoy Regular and Frequent Content — in a Variety of Exciting Media!
Substack allows writers and publishers to create new content very rapidly — which means I can bring you new and valuable training advice faster than ever before. That includes multi-media content, such as a combination of newsletters and podcasts or other audio content. I’m going to enjoy sharing training information with you, and I’m sure you’re going to enjoy seeing and hearing it — and being able to use it to achieve your strength training, health and conditioning goals.
Easy and Reliable Email Delivery!
I’ve been sending daily emails to my on-line email list since 2005, and I will continue to do so. However, email deliverability is becoming ever more difficult, with many email providers blocking emails from small businesses like mine — often on the basis of new rules, undisclosed rules or arbitrary criteria. Substack emails should be able to avoid these issues.
If you are already on my regular email list, you should still sign up for my substack. That way, if anything ever interferes with the delivery of my other emails, you can still follow me and stay up to date on my substack.
A Regular Publication Schedule.
Substack makes it easy to establish and stick to a regular publication schedule. At present, I plan to publish public substack posts on Friday of each week. Hopefully, I will be able to expand the publication schedule to three days per week.
A Combination of Free and Paid Content.
Substack allows both free and paid content. I’m going to offer free content initially, and then offer a combination of free and paid content. Obviously, if you support my work through a paid subscription, you’ll have access to more content, including both written content and podcasts or other audio material.
If you opt for Free Content, you will receive:
— Public posts available on my substack, including new emails published each Friday
Paid subscriptions subscriptions entitle you to the following benefits:
— Public posts available on my substack, including new emails published each week.
— Subscriber-only posts.
— Subscriber-only podcasts and/or other audio content.
— Access to my full substack archive.
As I said, I’m going to begin with free content, so please go ahead and sign up for it in the links below — and when I begin to offer paid content, I hope you purchase a paid subscription to support the Dinosaur Training mission and our goal of making the world better, stronger and healthier one lifter at a time!
